When Treske Precision Machining purchased a new batch of milling machines to create another flexible manufacturing work cell, the company’s Operations Manager, Mike Olander, let the machine tool builder know that the coolant delivery systems had to be reliable enough for continuous unattended operation. With this understanding, Treske  took the OEM’s recommendation and equipped each machine tool with LNS ChipBLASTER high-pressure coolant systems. According to Mr. Olander, they’re very glad they did.

“We use high pressure coolant on virtually all our machines and these units give us precisely the PSI our applications require. We also appreciate the fact that if we have a question about the machines we can get an answer from LNS ChipBLASTER’s headquarters 24/7 and, if we ever need onsite help, they get someone here quickly to keep us up and running.”

In business for more than 30 years, Treske first made precision parts for the semiconductor industry. When those orders slowed, the company explored other markets and eventually focused their attention on aerospace and defense as well as semiconductor machining. Today Treske serves these markets from an 80,000 square foot Sherwood, Oregon facility with 43 milling machines including four automated HMC cells.

Each automated cell utilizes pallet stackers and guided vehicles that deliver the pallets to the machine tools. A recently added cell has 5 HMCs serviced by 66 pallets. Each of these machine tools is equipped with an LNS ChipBLASTER high pressure coolant system. Thanks to these automated cells that are managed by a proprietary manufacturing control system, Treske has the flexibility to run high volume/low mix and low volume/high mix jobs for its customers. It also enables them to specialize in machining parts with highly complex geometry.

“When you’re running sophisticated automation lines like these, every piece of equipment needs to run smoothly. We find that the LNS ChipBLASTER high-pressure systems along with LNS Turbo chip conveyors deliver excellent chip management. The high-pressure systems maintain the desired PSI for each application, keep the coolant cleaner, and improve tool life.

The first LNS ChipBLASTER units we bought had filtering bags that worked well and were easy to change. The newer units are even a step up with a cyclonic filtration system that eliminates filtering bags altogether.”

According to LNS ChipBLASTER, the CF-79 cyclone filter has efficiency ratings up to 100% for filtering coolant to 10 microns, up to 95% for filtering to 5 microns and up to 50% for filtering to 2 microns. This level of filtration prolongs coolant life and reduces coolant  expense. The cyclone filter installs within the high-pressure unit, thus requiring no additional floor space. The companion ST 200 sludge tank holds particulates outside of the machine tool sump and is easily cleaned.

“We’re very satisfied with our LNS ChipBLASTER high-pressure systems and with the service and support we get. In fact, the LNS ChipBLASTER people often go above and beyond for us. For example, when a new machine tool we bought wasn’t performing as well as expected, LNS ChipBLASTER helped us analyze the situation and even gave us a new chiller unit and tank to try out, which ultimately helped resolve the issue. Having reliable, high-performing equipment is essential for a company like ours, as is the dependable service and support like we get from LNS ChipBLASTER.”
