5 Ways to Reduce the Cost of Chip Management

Filtering Chip Conveyors

A filtering chip conveyor that enables machining a wide range of materials, extends coolant and tool life and eliminates costly backups that interrupt production improves the bottom line of any CNC shop.

Of course it also helps if the chip conveyor is affordable. However the true cost of ownership involves much more than the initial purchase price. Here are five factors to consider when choosing a filtering chip conveyor:

  1. For greatest flexibility, the conveyor should be capable of managing chips of virtually all types and sizes, from stringy stainless steel to fine brass and aluminum.
  2. The ability to filter particles as fine as 50 microns means coolant lasts longer and performs consistently.
  3. Maintenance can be costly unless the chip conveyor is well designed with a hardened track and other wear-resistant components. It’s also important that the filtering system is self-cleaning, thus greatly reducing maintenance costs.
  4. Floor space is at a premium in most shops, so the filtering system should be integrated into the frame to reduce the footprint. Ideally, taking up no more space than a conventional hinge-belt conveyor.
  5. The ability to integrate with the existing coolant tank is, alone, a significant cost savings.

Other considerations include easy accessibility of technical service and replacement parts, expert installation and global support. All of which are available by contacting your local LNS representative, call 513-528-5674 or email: conveyor-sales@LNS-northamerica.com
